Embassy of Lithuania

Address: 2622 16th Street, NW , Washington, DC 20009

The Embassy of Lithuania will feature the upcoming 15th North American Lithuanian Folk Dance Festival, to be held in Baltimore June 30-July 3, 2016.

World War II and the Soviet occupation of Lithuania forced thousands of Lithuanians to flee their homeland and seek new lives in cities around the world. They feared losing it all – language, music, dance, and tradition. For the next several decades, they raised families, built schools, established parishes, and formed dance, theater, and choral groups to preserve their heritage. Lithuanian song and dance held a special place in their hearts.

In 1957 the first North American Lithuanian Folk Dance Festival was organized; dancers from 18 U.S. and Canadian cities gathered to celebrate Lithuanian folk dancing. It was an historic, and wildly successful event, marking the first of many subsequent festivals that have taken place approximately every four years and gathered together approximately 2,000 dancers, representing over 50 folk dance groups and attracted an audience of more than 5,000.

The Embassy visitors will have a unique chance to get acquainted with the Folk Dance traditions as well as to taste an unforgettable flavor of Lithuanian culture: cuisine, traditional folk songs and crafts. Taste it! Love it!

The embassy is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible.
